No strings? is a sonic exploration centered around a single element: the G string of the violin. Through detailed research and electronic synthesis, Octavi Rumbau reimagines the acoustic behavior of this string using a mixed ensemble — notably, without any string instruments — and an electronic device acting as a “virtual string.”

The work unfolds in three sections:
-
Sur la corde sol focuses on the friction and raw texture of bowing the G string.
-
La corde s’accorde explores the acoustic beating phenomenon that occurs during tuning.
-
Les harmoniques apparaissent reveals natural harmonics, merging electronics and ensemble into a unified sonic body.

With a rich timbral palette and an organic structure, No strings? invites listeners on a journey into the inner life of sound itself.
